The world is burning—and we don’t mean in the figurative sense. From unusually hot weather to thousands of wildfires across the globe, climate change is on the rise and more pressing than ever.
While these fires are shocking occurrences, it is not news that corporations are responsible for the majority of carbon emissions that contribute to climate change. So, what’s the good news? Corporations have been taking notice in recent years.
According to Accenture, 94% of top CEOs cite sustainability as important or very important to the future success of their businesses.
But actions speak louder than words, which is why we’ll be highlighting solutions through which we have helped organizations reach their ESG performance goals, as well as an exciting new sustainability initiative from Microsoft that will revolutionize ‘going green.’
Let's Talk Microsoft SharePoint & Document Management
Microsoft SharePoint is a simple but powerful example of a tool that fulfills functions necessary for your business while still being environmentally sustainable.
How?
Microsoft SharePoint eliminates the need for physical documents, file sharing, and operational workflows. Instead of printing out that agreement or approving your new SOPs on paper, you can share and notify your team of important files and tasks with just one click.
Not only is Microsoft SharePoint sustainable, it is also a more efficient and collaborative platform for streamlined content and workflows.
What we’re doing to help
Did you know? Microsoft SharePoint is used by 200,000+ organizations and more than 190 million people for team sites and content management.
As a future focused organization, we have helped several organizations implement and leverage SharePoint as an efficient and paperless solution.
Through the HydroOne Sustainability SharePoint Site project last year, we helped Craib Design & Communications work towards their goal of helping clients develop and communicate a strong track record of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance.
In a more recent initiative, we helped the Law Society of Ontario migrate to OneDrive and create a SharePoint team site, resulting in a reduced footprint.
SharePoint might be old news to many organizations, but there are still several businesses that could implement or increase their use of an intranet solution like SharePoint.
The more businesses that can migrate to a digital platform, the greater the impact the corporate world can have on sustainability.

Let's Talk eSignatures
It’s pretty clear now that SharePoint is a great sustainable platform for file sharing and workflows.
However, paperless documents require paperless signing—which is why DocuSign is an essential addition to your sustainable tool kit.
See the image above? DocuSign enables intuitive paperless signing so you don’t have to rifle through pages of agreements every week.
Did you know?
DocuSign has preserved over 2.5 million trees required to make paper, which has prevented 2 billion pounds of CO₂ from being produced.
Not only is DocuSign extremely sustainable, it is also far more efficient than paper signing. Up to 80% of agreements in DocuSign are completed in less than a day, and 44% in less than 15 minutes.
But DocuSign offers more than just eSigning. It provides a suite of applications to streamline agreement generation and approval, automate workflows, and negotiate using AI.

Let's Talk Microsoft Cloud & Remote Work
When the pandemic started, thousands of businesses in North America were forced to go remote. What at first felt like an uncertain working condition has now become the standard many organizations are continuing with.
One perk of the hybrid model that hasn’t been in the spotlight is that it is extremely sustainable. More people at home means less people driving, less energy used by offices, and energy efficient systems (via cloud).
But even for those organizations that might continue in office, cloud technology has left its impact.
An essential IT resource in a world health crisis
Cloud based solutions became an essential resource for many organizations in the past year. We observed new and past clients looking to the future and adopting Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and device management (Endpoint).
In one such project, we helped Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Toronto migrate from IBM Lotus Domino to Microsoft Office365. By implementing Microsoft Intune and Endpoint Management, we helped the organization prepare for remote work.
As a result, we reduced the organization’s footprint and capital cost for
new hardware acquisition.
“Thanks to Point Alliance, we can now remotely collaborate with our staff and agencies province-wide … This new and improved environment allows us to seamlessly and collaboratively continue servicing families across Toronto,”

Let's Look at the Future: Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability
As Microsoft Gold Partners, we’re proud to be working with an organization that is future forward.
Microsoft’s newest green initiative, Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability, is a whole new way for businesses to track their sustainability goals and gain insight on their footprint.
How?
Here are a few examples, from Microsoft, of how organizations will be able to leverage Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability to achieve their goals:
CIO’s will be able to easily report on IT carbon emissions from the cloud, devices and applications as part of their department’s environmental footprint. They will then be able to connect their emissions data sources into one view for reporting.
Companies will be able to offer their customers a sustainability scorecard to track progress against their carbon emission reduction goals, inclusive of scope 1-3 emissions (i.e., emissions from a company’s owned sources, emissions from purchased energy and all other emissions).
Customers will be able to pinpoint specific emission areas and track if they are meeting their emission reduction goals. For instance, if an HVAC system is not on track to meet its prescribed emissions reduction target, the task can be assigned to operations to make the necessary improvements to reach that target.
